Why we picked it
Teak has a high natural oil content, which is why boat builders have used it for centuries and why it's one of the very few woods you can put in a shower without watching it swell and split. The adjustable feet matter in older bathrooms where the floor slopes towards a drain. The marine-grade fittings are the detail that tells you this was designed for real use rather than photographed once in a dry studio.
Styling notes
Inside the shower it gives you somewhere to rest a foot and somewhere to put a razor down, which is most of what people actually want from one. Outside it works as a perch for a folded towel or a trailing plant, and the lower shelf keeps a spare roll off a wet floor. If your bathroom has a window, put it in the daylight. Teak grain warms up considerably in natural light, and that's when a fairly plain object starts looking like a good one.
Good to know
- Oil it occasionally to keep the color rich rather than silvery.
- Wipe it down after use and let it air-dry.
