Why we picked it
Ceiling lights put the brightness directly above you, which is useful for finding your keys and bad for everything else. An arc lamp reaches out and drops the light where you're actually sitting. The black and gold dome does its mid-century work from across the room, and the shade rotates a full circle, so the same lamp can serve a reading chair one night and a dinner table the next. At 2700K the whole corner goes warm.
Styling notes
Stand it behind or beside a sofa and let the arm hang out over the seat. You want the base tucked clear of the walkway and the shade more or less above where your head lands when you sit down. The dome throws a defined pool rather than lighting the room flat, which is why a corner with one of these in it looks deliberate. Warm it right down in the evening and push it towards daylight when you're reading or working. Give the weighted base a bit of floor to itself; squeezed against a wall it loses the shape entirely.
