The details

  • Material: stone-washed cotton-linen blend, semi-sheer
  • Set includes: 2 panels
  • Size: 50 × 84 in (127 × 213 cm) per panel
  • Hanging: four ways, using the rod pocket, back tabs, hooks or rings

Why we picked it

Semi-sheer is doing the heavy lifting here. Hard daylight comes through as a soft wash that flatters everything in the room, and you still get the daylight, which blackout curtains take away entirely. The stone-washed finish is the other reason we went with these: cheap curtain fabric tends to hang stiff and slightly shiny for months, whereas these fall properly from the first day.

Styling notes

Two things decide whether curtains look good, and neither is the fabric. First, fullness: you want panels adding up to roughly twice the width of your window so they gather in folds instead of stretching flat across it. Second, the rod. Mount it close to the ceiling and well past the frame on both sides, and the window looks taller and wider than it is while the panels sit off the glass. Steam the packing creases out rather than ironing them, because pressing flattens exactly the relaxed drape you bought them for.

Good to know

  • For proper fullness, use panels totalling about twice your window width.
  • Steam rather than iron. The soft crease is the point.
